GARY BARWIN is a writer, composer, and multidisciplinary artist and the author of 30 books including the national bestselling novel Yiddish for Pirates which won the Leacock Medal for Humour and the Canadian Jewish Literary Award, was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for Fiction and the Scotiabank Giller Prize, and was longlisted for Canada Reads. His latest books are Portal (Visual Poems) and Imagining Imagining: Essays on Language, Identity and Infinity. His recent public art installation, be:longings (with Tor Lukasik-Foss and Simon Frank) is a series of bronze sculptures installed in a Hamilton, Ontario park. His artwork has been exhibited at the Art Gallery of Hamilton (including a year-long interactive installation) as well as in galleries internationally.
